My Sweet Mugsy
When Mugsy joined the family we were pet free for the first time in quite awhile. I was looking forward to the break. A friend of a friend was Mugsy's current owner. She was moving in with her boyfriend and couldn't take him. When Mugsy came he was so scared. He hid under my bed for 2 weeks. I pulled the bed out from the wall just enough to stick my arm down. Every night I'd stick my arm down and every night he would sleep next to my hand. Every morning I woke up an hour early so I could lay on the floor and pet him. Every few days after the morning pet time; I'd bring his food and water bowls out a little bit further. Finally, he had worked his way into the kitchen. It didn't take him long after that to fit right in. One night my Sister and I were watching a movie in the living room. We kept hearing my son calling my name, "Mom"...."Mom". I called back, "Jacob, what do you want"..."come out here if you want to talk to me". Jacob walked out and asked, "what?" he wasn't the one calling me. He went back in his room and we went back to our movie. He started calling again, "Mom", "Mom". Just as we were going to call Jacob, Mugsy comes walking around the corner and says, "Mom". We couldn't believe it. I guess he heard Jacob do it so many times and watched it so much he figured out if you want Mom, you call "Mom". He was a wonderful and loving cat. The day he passed I was lucky enough to be with him. He gave me the biggest hug he ever gave me. I knew he was saying goodbye and thanks for a great life, "Mom".
Mugsy was a Snowshoe. Since I didn't receive any records with him, we had the Vet determine this. As best we could tell he lived a very long 15 to 18 years.
Snowshoe's suffer from separation anxiety so if you are thinking of one as a family pet; be sure you will be home every day and trips are minimal. They can have a tendency to make themselves ill due to being so upset when left alone. Would be perfect for someone who works from home.
